Why I am Straight Edge

BECAUSE I’M BETTER THAN YOU AND DOING IT FOR SCENE POINTS!!

NO. I decided to become Straight Edge because I can’t handle drink. I didn’t use to drink all that much, but when I did it was mainly strong things.

My changing point was when I decided to volunteer to do Open Day at college. I didn’t have enough time to go home and get the bus, so I stayed with some of the others and we decided to go to the pub to waste some time.

I ordered 1/2 a pint of cider and got wasted on it. You will probably laugh at this, but for me it was a big wake up call. I was due to go off to University that September and it scared me to think that it didn’t take that much to get me completely wasted and I didn’t like how vunerable it made me feel.

I didn’t want to be one of those girls at a club with their skirt up around their neck and make up halfway down their face.

I didn’t want to waste my money on something that I would probably throw up later that evening.

I didnt want to be THAT girl on the club floor or with her head down the club toilet bowl throwing up.

I particularly didnt want to be one of those people who always had the lame excuse of ‘oh I dont remember I was drunk’ or waking up with a strange guy after a one night stand.

I wanted to be in charge of my actions. If I did something stupid, well I only had myself to blame.

I became Straight Edge 6 1/2 years ago and I wouldn’t change my ways for anything.

A lot of people have said that thought I would be a really boring person, but after a night out with them, I usually prove them wrong and they realise that I can have just as much fun as them but without the drink.

It also means that my parents worry about me less, because they know that I would never be drinking and driving, and I can also make sure that some of my drunk friends get home safely.

I got my first Straight Edge tattoo after waiting 4 years. I wanted to make sure that it was for me. I got the inside of my lip done. Next I got my feet done and finally I have behind my ears.

I hate the stereotypical image that a lot of people have in their heads of Straight Edge people. Anyone who is TRUE to their Straight Edge lifestyle will NEVER force their beliefs upon someone else, as to be Straight Edge means that you are doing it for yourself and ONLY yourself.

I couldn’t give two shits if someone I know smokes or drinks. I prefer they don’t smoke around me, but at the end of the the day its THEIR decision, just like being Straight Edge is mine. All my boyfriends bar one have drunk and some have smoked.

One last thing. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN TO BE STRAIGHT EDGE.
